Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Faculty are expected to support & facilitate the department/school/college academic and university missions, visions, & long-term goals.
The position calls for teaching at the undergraduate level. Candidates should have strong evidence of professional experience and professional connections beneficial to students, and knowledge and training across the integrated disciplines of Advertising/Brand Communications and Public Relations. Desirable experience includes digital sophistication, media production knowledge, professional social media expertise, and a commitment to the concept of integration and convergence across the disciplines.
A candidate for promotion to the rank of associate professor must meet the following minimum criteria: An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Have earned a total of 60 graduate semester hours in the teaching field as part of an approved program from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution. Have been employed by the University of Central Oklahoma for five (5) or more academic years (summers excluded). The earliest the promotion process may begin is in the fall of the fifth year of service. Faculty hired prior to January 2011 must have held the rank of assistant professor for at least four (4) academic years at the University of Central Oklahoma. Faculty hired after January 2011 must have held the rank of assistant professor for five (5) academic years at UCO. Either hold tenure or be eligible for tenure review.
A Masters in Strategic Communications or related field required; ABD or terminal degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years full-time professional experience in strategic communications is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to work on departmental, college and university committees, participate in professional activities, and actively pursue of a substantive agenda for scholarly/creative work. The candidate should be prepared at the time of the interview to screen recent examples of their professional work.
