The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. This position is a full-time, tenure-track position.
Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of language arts, literacy and other elementary education methods courses.
Responsibilities include collecting program assessment data and conducting portfolio assessments, planning and supervising course-related field experiences, serving on committees at all levels, supervising student teachers, and engaging in scholarly/creative activities such as research, professional presentations/publications and grant writing.
Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected.
An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).
NOTE If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.
Doctorate required in Language Arts, Literacy or Elementary Education. Degree must be focused on teaching content at the elementary level. Certification in elementary education preferred. Previous teaching experience in public elementary and/ or middle school classroom required. College level teaching preferred.
Primary responsibilities are teaching, scholarship, and service to the University and profession.
In addition, demonstrate a high level of competence and deep understanding in the area of language arts, literacy and other elementary education.
Compliance with program, departmental and institutional policies and procedures including but not limited to submission of grades, keeping office hours, and making decisions regarding instructional matters, program assessment, and program outcomes.
Participate on appropriate committees at the departmental, college and university level.
Maintain documentation of professional activities using the electronic format Digital Measures.
