The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. This position is full-time, tenure-track position.
The responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Social Studies, language arts and/or STEM education with emphasis on primary and middle school areas. Candidate may also be responsible for other course work in the elementary education program. In addition, responsibilities include supervision of pre-service teachers, maintaining data for the program assessment plan, completing electronic portfolio assessments, completing state required annual public school experience, maintaining a current knowledge base in the field of elementary education, engaging in scholarly/creative activities and serving on committees at all levels of the University.
Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected.
An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).
NOTE If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.
Doctorate required in Elementary Education Pedagogy. Certification in elementary education preferred. Previous experience in public elementary and/ or middle school classroom required. Experience teaching elementary teacher education method’s courses at the university level is preferred. Candidates who are ABD in their doctoral programs will be considered for the Instructor rank with the expectation of degree completion on or before the end of the first year of employment.
Primary responsibilities are teaching, scholarship, and service to the University and profession.
In addition, an ability to demonstrate a high level of competence and deep understanding in Social Studies, STEM and language arts education is required.
Compliance with program, departmental and institutional policies and procedures including but not limited to submission of grades, keeping office hours, and making decisions regarding instructional matters, program assessment, and program outcomes.
Participate on appropriate committees at the departmental, college and university levels.
